Bachelor Pad – Need some Female Advice

pad

I’m so pumped right now!  In about a week I will be moving into my first really nice place before I start my real job (I work at a large consulting firm).  A few of the things I like most about my place are the wooden floors throughout and the granite counter tops in the kitchen.  Also, I am a huge fan of its location… it is right in the middle of a town which is convenient because I can walk to the bank, grocery store, food (SUBWAY!), and bar on the weekend.

This past weekend I went and bought some furniture (a new couch, bedroom set, tables, rugs, etc.).  After spending way too much (I guess I got caught up in the excitement), I am now figuring out if there is anything else I should consider for my place to make it into a respectable bachelor pad.

What do I mean by respectable?  I mean that I want to have a place that sends a message to my dates and female friends that I am no longer a drunk, party loving college guy.  Sure, I sometimes enjoy getting a bit tipsy from time to time, but I figured my place doesn’t need to reflect this lifestyle anymore.

Ladies, if you go into a guys place, what kind of things do you generally look for/at?  Pictures on the wall?  Arrangement of furniture?

I appreciate your help!

  1. I look for things that I put in my own home to make it “cozy”. Art on the walls or on the tables. – no, not naked pin-ups, if you must have nudity, make it tasteful art or sculptures. A few throw rugs here and there on floors. A plant or two. I like to see books in a place. A place that looks like it’s been “settled” into, tends to reflect a “settled” (more mature) person.

Keep your place clean and tidy, indicates responsibility for your space.

Just think of the things that appeal to you, that reflect your personality, and find more grown up versions of it to show people what you’re about.

  2. Hi there, and congratulations on your new home. very exciting.

To answer your question I look at bathrooms and how clean they are. This is huge for me because since college apartments were the epitome of germ infested bathrooms, it shows you have grown up and bother to clean the hair out of the sink after you shave.

Instead of a full bar on display, a wine rack is a nice touch. It has a less boozy feel and a bottle of wine shared with a lady is a nice way to spend the evening. Also it shows you know about the finer things.

We love that you were an athlete in h.s. college whatever, but unless you are an Olympian the trophies stay at the parents.

Art also gives a peak into a guys aesthetic, and simple yet interesting art is a great conversation point and looks great on walls.

Everything in moderation I say. So dont go overboard on candles or knick knacks, they are signs of a pack rat. LOL

    Enjoy your place, V

  3. Let’s see –

1.) No lawn chairs and/or any traditional “patio” furniture anywhere inside the residence

    and

    2.) Furniture that matches

There aren’t really any rules, actually. Just always keep in mind that it is never permissible to shop at The Pottery Barn unless you are cohabitating with a woman or are gay. Never.

  4. Me. What I usually look for was

    1. a guitar, and then I’d ask you to play it. If you can play it cool, you can always leave your place as messy as possible — it wouldn’t turn me off. Or…

    2. Your shoes, or socks (how dirty they have to be to get into the laundry bin). The dirtier the better. It shows me that you don’t really give a shit about girls, and that’s challenging. or…

    3. Porns (magazines, DVDs, pinups, etc). No porns is a turn-off, it’s like you’re not ‘normal’.

So, you see. You can’t generalize girls. Some girls don’t really care about how your place looks like. Just be yourself, arrange it to your comfort.

  5. 1. A clean bathroom (Nothing screams, “I’m a grown man” more than this!)

    2. No porn collection out for all to see

    3. Actual framed photos/artwork on the walls, not posters of movies, naked, women, or bands
